Yay! i'm so relieved today bible study lesson was over! Really thought i would screwed up teaching the my cell group. :S Guess it really turned out to be quite good. hahas! i'm not trying to praise myself but God really calmed my heart as i was teaching such a tough topic. The topic was my ideal mate! D:
As i was teaching about what true love is, i was actually evaluating on myself. How have i grown this few year? Am i really sure of what my feeling for her is true love?
Well, in order to identify what's true love, we first have to know what's not true love.
True Love is not the same as lust.
Love and lust are often confused in our culture.
So how can we tell the difference?
Love gives; lust take.
Love values; lust uses.
Love endures; lust susides.
Physical attraction is often the spark that eventually ignites into true love. God desgined us with the desire and capacity for sexual intimacy. But if your interaction with someone of the opposite sex is based on intense sxual feelings and physical gratification, then lust maybe playing the role of love in the relationship.
Love is no the same as romance.
Romantic feelings are wonderful in a close male-female relationship. God wired us to experience these feelings in special relationships with the opposite sex. But the excitement and warmth of romance cannot be equated with love. Romance is a feeling; true love is much more.
True love is not the same as infatuation.
Infatuation is a fascination with and intense interest in someone of the opposite sex. You find yourself thinking about that person all day and dreaming about him or her at night. Your thoughts maybe so preoccupied with that person that you can't concentrate on anything else..
Infatuation is nothing wrong, but it should not be mistaken for love..
Infatuation is usually "me-centered"; love is"other-centered."
we all need to know more than what true love isn't, you need to understand what true love is.
There's 3 type of LOVE.
"I love you if..."
Qualified love, if love, is conditional love. it is given or received only when certain conditions are met. The only way to get this kind of love is to earn it by performing in an approved way.
e.g. Some parents love their children if they behave well, if they get good grades, if they act or dress a certain way. Among married or dating couples, love ma be withheld if one partner fails to do or be what the ohter expects. If love is basically selfish. As long as certain conditions prevail, the relationship is fine. But when one or both partners failt to perform up to the desired standard, "love" turns to disappointment and resentment.
"i love you Because..."
One person loves another because of something he or she is, has, or does. Someone may say, "i love you because you are beautiful" or "i love you because you take good care of me" or "i love you because you cheer me up always when i'm down."
Because love is not true love.
if your love is not founded on more than what that person appears to be, has or does, it will not last.
What if the opposite sex has no longer appears to be what you always thought of him, no longer has what he/she once possess, or no longer did what he used to do.
"Love without conditions.."
This kind of love says, " i love you despite what you maybe deep down inside. I love you no matter what might change about you. You can't do anything to turn off my love! "
Love without conditions should know a great deal about the other person. It may be aware of that person's faulures, shortcoming, and faults. Yet it totally accepts him or her without demanding anything in return. There is no way you can earn this type of love, nor can you lose it.
So after knowing all of these, there are 2 main point which are:
True love is being committed to protect and provide.
True love seeks to meet needs for comfort, support and encouragement for the other partner.
As i look about at the past and these few years, truly the infatuation that i once had has.... HAHAHAS! not telling
And i know most likely you wont be able to see it but i just want to thank you for being so firm with your decision and not giving me a glims of false hope. Thank you for protecting me for these few and not letting me feel hurt. i truly know what it means to being committed to protect and provide and i will! at least for the next few years..you! :D
